Uutinen kitaravirtuoosi Alexi Laihon (Children of Bodom, Bodom After Midnight, Sinergy, Kylähullut) kuolemasta yllätti ja pysäytti lukuisat miehen ystävät ja kollegat ympäri maailman ja monet ovatkin ottaneet osaa suruun julkaisemalla sosiaalisessa mediassa lyhyitä muistokirjoituksia. Yhtyetoveri Daniel Freybergin, Sinergy-solisti ja ex-vaimo Kimberly Gossin, Esa Holopaisen (Amorphis), Klamydian, Nightwishin, Sonata Arctican, Noora Louhimon (Battle Beast) ja Floor Jansenin (Nightwish) lisäksi Laihoa ovat muistaneet muun muassa Steve Vai, Megadethin Dave Mustaine ja David Ellefson, Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Matt Heafy (Trivium), Marty Friedman, Sebastian Bach ja Alex Skolnick (Testament).
Laihoa muistetaan myös Yle Teemalla, joka lähettää ensi torstaina keskiyöllä Children of Bodomin keikkataltioinnin Ruisrockista vuodelta. 2014. Keikka on jo nyt katsottavissa Areenassa. Yle Areenassa on myös katsottavissa kaksituntinen Iiron musiikkiluokka -jakso, jossa Laiho opettaa kitaroinnin saloja yhdessä Erja Lyytisen, Juha Torvisen ja Juha Björnisen kanssa.

Sad news. #AlexiLaiho created new possibilities in extreme metal with technically sophisticated solos that held their own alongside the best in more popularized metal genres. Didn’t know him well, but we had appearances together over the years. A good guy, far too young to go

Absolutely gutted about Alexi Laiho`s very untimely passing. He had a lot more to left to say with his music.

Rest In Peace to another musical hero.
Without Children Of Bodom’s Something Wild, Hatebreeder, and Follow The Reaper – Trivium likely wouldn’t be here.
You will be missed Alexi.
Favorite Bodom song of all time?

…I’ll always remember that. Since then, we ran into each other a few times at the ESP guitars signings at Namm and Messe, and was always nice to hang out for a bit. Such a loss for the Metal world and for the guitar community. My condolences to his family and loved ones. 🙏
